It was all for the children

Last year i was privileged enough to participate as an Eco-Mentor during the Children In The Wilderness (CITW) Annual Camp in December. For those who are not familiar with this program, “Children in the Wilderness is a non-profit organisation supported by ecotourism company Wilderness Safaris to facilitate sustainable conservation through leadership development and education of rural children in Africa.”

I must admit it was a bit overwhelming at first as it was my first time being an Eco-mentor. Once i got to mingle and engage with the children everything became clear and i had realised my purpose and obligation to the children. I wrote a report soon after the event, expressing how the whole experience unfolded, the interactions and on goings of the event. I was honored to find that the CITW team had published my report. It is quite a good read ,though i say so myself, and you can have a go at it too by clicking on the image below:

Free Time

The day started out with a cloudy sky and gloomy atmosphere. I did not even feel like going to work but one has got to do what one has to do i guess. Everything began to change the moment i had reached the office. The sky started clearing up and the “shy” sun’s rays shone through the clouds and made for an amazing view. With our guests gone out of camp for the day i took sometime to just sit back relax and marvel at the magnificent site. Do not take my word for it rather see for yourself below.

I do not know about you but i take it that mother nature is quite the artist and beautiful. I could definitely get used to the feeling of oneness with nature as my mind was left relaxed and rejuvenated just but taking time out of one’s time to simply sit back, relax and connect with nature. Case in point, relaxation is essential in living happily and healthy.

Smith’s bush squirrel

I love my job. Working in the tourism industry and safari camps has granted me the opportunity to become one with nature. Case in point, even the animals (bush buddies) come to say hello. There is one bush buddy in particular a squirrel but not just any squirrel, a Smith’s bush squirrel. Beautiful animal, always hanging around camp especially the office. I love my bush buddy.

These African bush squirrel is small at about 350mm and vegetarian. It also goes by other names, namely the yellow-footed squirrel, tree squirrel in South Africa and Paraxerus cepapi (scientifically). It is found in Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Enjoy your festive season. I know i am 🙂

Beautiful landscape

Today i woke up expecting to see a lot of animals in front of the camp. This however was not to be, all thanks to the rain that showered over the park. There was however a silver lining, the view despite the rain made for a beautiful landscape and i could not help but to take a picture and share it.
